Purpose This study aims to understand how knowledge workers working from home during COVID-19 changed their views on physical work environments and working-from-home practices. Design/methodology/approach conducted a survey targeting in the USA recruited via Amazon Mechanical Turk. A total of 1,651 responses were collected 648 used for analysis. During the COVID-19 pandemic, working from home (WFH) became only option for many organizations, generating increasing interest in how such arrangements impact employee job satisfaction. Adopting an event system perspective, this study employed online survey to capture WFH experiences of 256 workers 66 Chinese enterprises during pandemic. Previous research indicates that employees' mental health might be influenced by their satisfaction with physical office characteristics, such as noise, daylight, and ventilation. However, similar on in relation to working from home (WFH) is limited. COVID-19 outbreak imposed rapid and severe public policies that consistently impacted the lifestyle habits mental health of general population. Despite vaccination, lockdown restrictions are still considered as potential measures to contrast variants spread in several countries. Logistic regression analysis showed significant associations between moderate depression symptomatology (PHQ-9 scores ≥ 15), houses with both poor quality small dimensions (OR = 4.132), either medium 3.249) or big 3.522).
