In this work, we review the most recent scientific evidence involving propolis two countries (Brazil Mexico) located in different hemispheres with varied biomes. Brazil has scientifically well documented classification of types propolis. Although Mexico present compositions, they share compounds recognized biological activities extraction processes. Gram-negative bacteria growth inhibited lower concentrations extracts, regardless origin. Prominent against cancer cells fungi were verified extracts evaluated. Antiprotozoal activity needs to be further evaluated for both origins. Regarding contamination (e.g., pesticides, toxic metals), few studies have been carried out. However, there chemical anthropological action. Studies demonstrate versatility using forms (extracts, products, etc.), but several potential applications that might improve value Brazilian Mexican should still investigated.

Although nectar is consumed, primarily as a supplemental food, by broad range of insects spanning at least five orders, it processed and stored only small number species, most which are bees wasps in the superfamily Apoidea. Within this group, Apis mellifera has evolved remarkable adaptations facilitating processing storage; doing so, species utilizes end product, honey, for diverse functions with few if any equivalents other phytophagous insects. Honey its phytochemical constituents, some likely derive from propolis, have functional significance protecting honey against microbial pathogens, toxins, cold stress, well regulating development adult longevity. The distinctive properties A. appear to arisen multiple ways, including genome modification; partnerships symbionts; evolution specialized behaviors, foraging substances than nectar. That making involves incorporation exogenous material nectar, endogenous products such antimicrobial peptides royal jelly, suggests that regarding little more source carbohydrates concept need revision.
