Lower termites, as well their sister group, the subsocial wood-feeding cockroach Cryptocercus, rely on flagellated eukaryotic symbionts in hindgut to cooperatively digest wood diet. In Cryptocercus these flagellates undergo encystment cycles tightly coordinated with molting cycle of host, yet resultant cysts play no demonstrated role transmission neonates; trophozoite stage is passed directly from parents offspring via fluids (proctodeal trophallaxis). This pattern suggests that a vestige gregarious ancestor, when had functional, two-stage life and were horizontally transmitted among hosts coprophagy. The strong integration between flagellate host developmental physiology indicates relationship proposed ancestor was not commensal, but parasitic, likely obtaining benefits by taking advantage gut metabolites ingested plant debris. When vertical evolved parasites 'captured', fitness became inescapably embedded host. origin subsociality proctodeal trophallaxis can be considered two sides same coin. From point view marks origination parental care provisioning neonates nourishment, beneficial microbiota. view, shift horizontal transmission, pushing them parasitic mutualistic end symbiotic spectrum, arguably making this behavioral change most critical juncture evolutionary trajectory termite lineage.

Termites have long been studied for their symbiotic associations with gut microbes. In the late nineteenth century, this relationship was poorly understood and captured interest of parasitologists such as Joseph Leidy; research led to that twentieth-century biologists entomologists including Cleveland, Hungate, Trager, Lüscher. Early insights came via microscopy, organismal, defaunation studies, which descriptions microbes present, roles symbionts in lignocellulose digestion, early into energy gas utilization by host termite. Focus then progressed culture-dependent microbiology biochemical studies host–symbiont complementarity, revealed specific microhabitat requirements noncellulosic mechanisms symbiosis (e.g., N 2 fixation). Today, knowledge on termite has accrued exponentially thanks omic technologies reveal symbiont identities, functions, interdependence, well intricacies complementarity. Moving forward, merging classical approaches evolving tools should provide even deeper interplay.

Abstract Background For many years, denim-heavy quality cotton twill colored with indigo colors and a well-worn/faded look has held lot of appeal. Machine damage, drainage system blockage, other issues come the conventional usage pumice stones for “stone-washing” denims. In view abovementioned information, range works been done to investigate economic prospects bacterial cellulase enzymes use in industrial processes, including biopolishing textile sector. Ethiopia excellent termite diversity isolate gut-associated cellulose biostoning applications. The main purpose this study was, therfore, decipher how characterize from (Isoptera) gut bacteria intention employing it textiles. Purpose To cellulolytic Klebsiella oxytoca (M21WG) sp. (Z6WG) isolated guts textiles improving garment quality. Methods Cellulase enzyme-producing were screened worker termites sampled Meki Zeway mounds Central Rift Valley region Ethiopia. Bacterial screening, biochemical, morphological, 16S rRNA sequence identification techniques employed strains. addition, production, optimization, purification associated employed, potential application was demonstrated. Result M21WG found be 99% identical (MT104573.1) strain, while Z6WG showed 97.3% identity strain (MN629242.1). At an ideal pH 7, temperature 37 °C, 72-h incubation time, substrate concentration 1.5% carboxymethylcellulose sodium, maximum activity crude extract these assessed. These produced that moderately efficient. Consequently, determined effective denim cloth. Conclusion It could used as doorway better understand harnessing cellulase-producing guts. study, also attempted assess effectiveness two isolates anticipation their realm.
