Hyperscanning is a form of neuroimaging experiment where the brains two or more participants are imaged simultaneously whilst they interact. Within domain social neuroscience, hyperscanning increasingly used to measure inter-brain coupling (IBC) and explore how brain responses change in tandem during interaction. In addition cognitive research, some have suggested that quantification interplay between interacting can be as biomarker for variety mechanisms aswell investigate mental health developmental conditions including schizophrenia, anxiety autism. However, many different methods been quantify this lead questions about comparability across studies reduce research reproducibility. Here, we review quantifying IBC, suggest ways moving forward. Following PRISMA guidelines, reviewed 215 studies, four imaging modalities: functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), magnetic resonance (fMRI), electroencephalography (EEG) magnetoencephalography (MEG). Overall, identified total 27 compute IBC. The most common modality fNIRS, by 119 89 which adopted wavelet coherence. Based on results literature survey, first report summary statistics field, followed brief overview each signal obtained from hyperscanning. We then discuss rationale, assumptions suitability method modalities Finally, issues surrounding interpretation method.

It allowed researchers measure dynamic mutual alignment of neural processes between two or more individuals naturalistic contexts. The ever-growing interest research calls for the development transparent and validated data analysis further advance field. We have developed tested dual electroencephalography (EEG) pipeline, namely DEEP. Following preprocessing data, DEEP allows users calculate Phase Locking Values (PLVs) cross-frequency PLVs as indices inter-brain phase dyads well time-frequency responses EEG power each participant. pipeline also includes scripts control spurious correlations. Our goal is contribute open reproducible science practices by making publicly available together with an example mother-infant dataset.

Abstract Despite increasing emphasis on emergent brain‐behavior patterns supporting language, cognitive, and socioemotional development in toddlerhood, methodologic challenges impede their characterization. Toddlers are notoriously difficult to engage brain research, leaving a developmental window which neural processes understudied. Further, electroencephalography (EEG) event‐related potential paradigms at this age typically employ structured, experimental tasks that rarely reflect formative naturalistic interactions with caregivers. Here, we introduce provide proof of concept for new “Social EEG” paradigm, parent–toddler dyads interact naturally during EEG recording. Abstract While substantial research supports the role of parent–child interactions on emergence psychiatric symptoms, few studies have explored biological mechanisms for this association. The current study behavioral and neural synchronization during frustration play as predictors internalizing externalizing behaviors across a span 1.5 years. Parent-adolescent emotion transmission is crucial for adolescents' psychological development. Parental negative emotions could impair parent-adolescent interaction and relationships. Brief mindfulness practices (BMPs) are effective improving emotional regulation reducing emotions. However, few studies explored the effects of BMP on transmission. This study used hyperscanning technique to examine differences in change states, cooperative performance, interbrain synchrony (IBS) between group (20 dyads) control rest (CR) under induced parental cooperation tasks. Results showed (1) decreases emotions, hostility, state anxiety after BMP, but only decreased CR rest; (2) an increase success rate no (3) IBS delta theta bands feedback increases failure rest. These findings suggest that may mitigate adolescents promote their focused attitude toward cooperation.
