Chronic cough, which affects approximately 10 % of the global population, is recognized as a significant health issue, especially among females. Recent research suggests that chronic cough may be an independent disease rather than merely symptom other conditions. This study focuses on potential role exposure to perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in development noting PFAS has been linked various adverse outcomes. We aimed explore association between risk U.S. analyzing data from National Health Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2003 2012 examining sex-based differences. Our findings reveal several factors independently associated with increased incidence including elevated levels serum perfluorobutane sulfonic acid (PFBS) perfluoroheptanoic (PFHP). The multi-pollutant models consistently demonstrated positive correlation higher adult males, PFBS PFHP primary contributors. However, due cross-sectional design NHANES study, further necessary elucidate precise mechanisms by contribute cough.

Abstract Background Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are known environmental contaminants with immunosuppressive properties. Their connection to rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a condition influenced by the immune system, is not well studied. This research explores association between PFAS exposure RA prevalence. Methods utilized data from NHANES, encompassing sample of 10,496 adults 2003–2018 cycles, focusing on serum levels several PFAS. The presence was determined based self-reports. study used multivariable logistic regression assess relationship individual risk, adjusting for covariates calculate odds ratios (ORs). combined effects mixtures were evaluated using BKMR, WQS regression, quantile g-computation. Additionally, sex-specific associations explored through stratified analysis. Results Higher PFOA (OR = 0.88, 95% CI: 0.79, 0.98), PFHxS 0.91, 0.83, 1.00), PFNA 0.87, 0.77, PFDA 0.89, 0.81, 0.99) concentration related lower RA. Sex-specific analysis in single chemical models indicated significant inverse only evident females. BKMR did show an obvious pattern estimates across mixture. outcomes sex-stratified g-computation demonstrated that increase mixture associated decreased females (OR: 0.76, 0.62, 0.92). We identified interaction term WQS*sex 100 repeated hold out Notably, higher significantly reduced (mean OR 0.93, 0.98). Conclusions indicates potential various their observed relationships statistically but males. These findings contribute growing body evidence indicating may have effects.

Elevated homocysteine (Hcy) is a pathogenic mechanism of adverse pregnancy outcomes and PM2.5–induced cardiovascular diseases. We investigated the associations fine particulate matter (PM2.5) chemical constituent exposures with maternal circulatory Hcy in early pregnancy. Serum 5-methyltetrahydrofolate 324 women (162 normal [NEP] 162 loss [EPL]) were measured by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem triple quadrupole mass spectrometry. Daily to PM2.5 constituents (black carbon [BC], organic matter, nitrate, ammonium, sulfate) accessed using data Tracking Air Pollution China platform. Nonlinear linear average pollutant during post-conception period serum estimated generalized additive models multivariable regression models, respectively. Weekly cumulative distributed lag between within three months before collection analyzed nonlinear combined models. Sensitivity analyses conducted residuals instead concentrations. Three–month five associated elevated all participants, EPL group, NEP 3–12 weeks being susceptible exposure time windows. Pollutants–related generally higher group than group. Higher PM2.5, BC, sulfate increased lower but not subgroup. Sulfate was highest risk residual–related Hcy. BC both three–month periods Maternal exposures, constituent. BC–related may induce EPL.
