Abstract On 3 February 2023, a Norfolk Southern train derailment occurred in East Palestine, Ohio. The accident and subsequent fire resulted the emissions of large amounts hazardous compounds to ambient atmosphere over many days. We used precipitation chemistry measurements routinely collected by National Atmospheric Deposition Program (NADP) estimate spatial extent chemical deposited as result accident. Our revealed areal impact from Midwest through Northeast likely Canada, perhaps far south North Carolina (portions 16 states, 1.4 million km 2 ). Observations showed expected high chloride concentrations, but also unexpectedly pH (basic) exceptionally elevated levels base cations exceeding 99th percentiles versus historic record. These results were consistent with meteorological conditions atmospheric trajectories, not due highly-concentrated low volume samples or wildfires. robust NADP network clearly show that impacts larger scale scope than initial predictions, uplift itself entraining pollutants into atmosphere. A more detailed evaluation resulting could further refine full dry wet deposition, specific impact.

Microplastic pollution (MPs) emerged as a significant environmental concern due to its persistent nature. These MPs particles endure in waters, soils, and even the atmosphere, posing potential threats entire ecosystem. Aquatic organisms are at risk of ingesting MPs, leading accumulation tissues, ultimately affecting food chain. This study aims provide an overview sources distribution, impacts. have been documented various substances such bottled water, salts, seafood, air. However, full extent health consequences on human exposure remains uncertain. Therefore, it is imperative that we draw public attention presence these pollutants environment. To mitigate adverse effects reducing plastic consumption, implementing improved waste management practices, advocating sustainable behaviors essential for well-being natural ecosystems populations.

The soil microplastics pollution problem is becoming more and urgent every year. PVC a widely used material, consequently it possible that are significant contributor to pollution, especially in industrial soils. At the same time, usually contains many different chemical additives have ability migrate surface during aging. This review devoted summarizing results of studies on prevalence, ecotoxicological effects, features analytical process for detection microplastics. There evidence adversely affect ecosystem by leaching harmful substances with aging, affecting some animals, plants, microbial communities, enzymatic activity biogeochemical cycles. However, there insufficient data this issue further research needed. approaches analytics steps containing microplastics, its as well complexity matrix, must be taken into account when selecting protocol. It necessary strive standardization protocol comparable data.
