Abstract The mechanisms underlying the relationship between firms' digitalization transformation and environmental, social, governance (ESG) are underexplored. Using a sample of Chinese listed firms from 2011 to 2020, this research explores whereby affects ESG performance. This study addresses the challenges of digitally transforming teams from conventional to virtual environments in response unique conditions a global pandemic lock-down and need for business survival, rather than as proactive strategic move initiated encouraged by senior management.
