Abstract Current US lung cancer screening recommendations limit eligibility to adults with a pack‐year (PY) history of ≥20 years and the first 15 since quit (YSQ). The authors conducted systematic review better understand incidence, risk mortality among otherwise eligible individuals in this population beyond YSQ. PubMed Scopus databases were searched through February 14, 2023, relevant articles by hand. Included studies examined relationship between both ≥20‐PY ≥15 YSQ diagnosis, mortality, ineligibility. One investigator abstracted data second confirmed. Two investigators independently assessed study quality certainty evidence (COE) resolved discordance consensus. From 2636 titles, 22 26 included. Three provided low COE elevated incidence YSQ, as compared people who never smoked, six moderate that diagnosis after declines gradually, but no clinically significant difference just before Studies examining cancer‐related disparities suggest outcomes similar African American/Black White participants; increasing would expand for individuals, significantly larger proportion individuals. observed not only persists that, may remain 2 or 3 decades. Future research nationally representative samples consistent reporting across is needed, are from which examine effects on health different populations.

ObjectiveTo investigate whether joint risk factor control could reduce the excess of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in patients with hypertension.Patients and MethodsA total 75,293 diagnosed hypertension from UK Biobank study were included, matched 256,619 nonhypertensive controls, followed up until May 31, 2021. Seven factors measured to define control, including blood pressure, body mass index, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, hemoglobin A1c, albuminuria, smoking, physical activity.ResultsAmong hypertensive patients, 14% 24% lower risks CVD outcomes associated each additional control. In Cox proportional hazards models, adjusted hazard ratios for 6 or more controls compared having 2 less 0.49 (95% CI, 0.45 0.55) CVD, 0.51 0.57) coronary heart disease, 0.48 0.38 0.60) stroke, 0.34 0.26 0.44) mortality. The diminished nonsignificant even if achieving controls. Men experienced stronger protective associations on than women (P<.001 interaction).ConclusionThe is a high degree may considerably attenuate among hypertension.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths due to its high incidence, late diagnosis, and limited success in clinical treatment. Prevention therefore critical help improve lung management. Although tobacco control cessation are effective strategies for prevention, numbers current former smokers USA globally not expected decrease significantly near future. Chemoprevention interception needed high-risk individuals reduce their risk or delay development. This article will review epidemiological data, pre-clinical animal data that support potential kava reducing human via holistic polypharmacological effects. Background Heart failure (HF) is one of the most common initial manifestations cardiovascular disease in patients with type 2 diabetes. Although smoking an independent risk factor for HF, there a lack data incidence HF according to changes behaviors Objective We aimed examine association between interval behavior and among Methods conducted retrospective cohort study using National Health Insurance Service database. identified 365,352 current smokers diabetes who had consecutive health screenings (2009-2012) followed them until December 31, 2018, incident HF. Based on screenings, participants were categorized into quitter, reducer I (≥50% reduction) II (<50% reduction), sustainer (reference group), increaser groups. Results During median follow-up 5.1 (IQR 4.0-6.1) years, 13,879 cases (7.8 per 1000 person-years). Compared sustainers, cessation was associated lower risks (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR] 0.90, 95% CI0.86-0.95), whereas increasers showed higher than sustainers; heavy increased their level (aHR 1.13, CI 1.04-1.24). In case reducers, not reduced but rather slightly (reducer I: aHR 1.14, 1.08-1.21; II: 1.03, 0.98-1.09). Consistent results noted subgroup analyses including severity, age, sex. Conclusions Smoking diabetes, while increasing amount those sustaining amount. There no benefit from reduction
