Abstract Nowadays, considering the constant changes in customers’ demands, manufacturing systems tend to move more and towards customization while ensuring expected reactivity. In addition, attention is given human factors to, on one hand, create opportunities for improving work conditions such as safety and, other reduce risks brought by new technologies job cannibalization. Meanwhile, Industry 4.0 offers ways facilitate this change enhancing human–machine interactions using Collaborative Robots (Cobots). Recent research studies have shown that cobots may bring numerous advantages systems, especially their flexibility. This investigates impacts of integration context assembly disassembly lines. For purpose, a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) performed. The existing contributions are classified basis subject study, methodology, performance criteria, type Human-Cobot collaboration. Managerial insights provided, perspectives discussed.

This review draws on a systematic literature and bibliometric analysis to examine how Digital Twins (DTs), Extended Reality (XR), Artificial Intelligence (AI) support the reconfiguration of Cyber–Physical Systems (CPSs) in modern manufacturing. The aims provide an updated overview these technologies’ roles CPS reconfiguration, summarize best practices, suggest future research directions. In two-phase process, we first analyzed related work assess current state assisted manufacturing identify gaps existing reviews. Based insights, adapted PRISMA methodology was applied screen 165 articles from Scopus Web Science databases, focusing those published between 2019 2025 addressing DT, XR, AI integration Reconfigurable Manufacturing (RMSs). After applying exclusion criteria, 38 were selected for final analysis. findings highlight individual combined impact DTs, processes. DTs notably reduce time improve system availability, enhances decision-making, XR improves human–machine interactions. Despite advancements, gap exists regarding application technologies, indicating potential areas exploration. reviewed studies recognized limitations, especially due diverse study designs methodologies that may introduce risks bias, yet offers insight into landscape RMS suggests research.

The integration of robots in manufacturing systems known as Human Robot Collaboration (HRC) can provide relevant opportunities terms productivity, safety and quality control although there are still many challenges such costs, complexity, workforce concerns, skills gaps regulatory compliance. Digital Twins (DTs), which virtual replicas physical systems, being explored a promising solution to address these challenges. Therefore, this paper delves into the potential DTs-based approaches for HRC with focus on their ability realistic simulation environment testing optimizing collaboration strategies. first part study involves comprehensive literature review devoted understand how scientific community perceives application DTs main trends research area identified. second presents detailed analysis currently available commercial software solutions developing DT models scenarios. encompassed various aspects as: software's capabilities human robot simulation, ergonomic time measurements analysis, data exchange interoperability world well other software. results meant practical insights researchers practitioners interested implementing enhance systems.

Due to increasing demand uncertainty and product variety, manufacturing systems must continually adapt maintain productivity. Generally, decision-makers can flexibility account for these adaptations efficiently already in the design phase of systems. Consequently, over past few decades, a significant body literature has addressed system associated with various paradigms, claiming provide 'right' level flexibility. Advanced analytical methods from Operations Research are frequently used this domain support decision-making. However, articles on paradigms remain disjunct streams. In article, we review last two decades that focuses application design. The analyzed were selected peer-reviewed scientific systematic search screening process. To unite different concept Manufacturing Flexibility is adapted, focusing types required considered systems' phases. reviewed employ mixed-integer linear programming or propose heuristic procedures. Most contributions evaluate static deterministic settings, overlooking short- long-term uncertainties Predominantly, maintained enhance economic performance-oriented objectives. consideration social ecological indicators, however, barely found. Therefore, research perspectives analysis include integrating indicators into multi-objective decision-making methods, anticipating neighboring planning problems during design, applying procedures address uncertainty.
