Spirulina is a kind of blue-green algae (BGA) that multicellular, filamentous, and prokaryotic. It also known as cyanobacterium. classified within the phylum algae. Despite fact it includes high concentration nutrients, such proteins, vitamins, minerals, fatty acids—in particular, necessary omega-3 acids omega-6 acids—the percentage total fat cholesterol can be found in these substantially lower when compared to other food sources. This case even if significantly lower. In addition this, spirulina has bioactive compounds, phenols, phycocyanin pigment, polysaccharides, which all take part number biological activities, antioxidant anti-inflammatory activity. As result its way into formulation great medicinal foods, functional nutritional supplements. Therefore, this article makes an effort shed light on spirulina, value chemical composition, applications some product formulations, dairy products, snacks, cookies, pasta, are at industrial level industry over world. addition, supports idea incorporating sector, both from health perspective, offers numerous advantages.

Functional foods show non-toxic bioactive compounds that offer health benefits beyond their nutritional value and beneficially modulate one or more target functions in the body. In recent decades, there has been an increase trend toward consuming rich compounds, less industrialized, with functional properties. Spirulina, a cyanobacterium considered blue microalgae, widely found South America, stands out for its composition of as well unsaturated fatty acids essential amino acids, which contribute to basic human nutrition can be used protein source diets free from animal products. addition, they have colored such chlorophylls, carotenoids, phycocyanins, phenolic corants natural antioxidants. this context, review article presents main biological activities spirulina anticancer, neuroprotective, probiotic, anti-inflammatory, immune system stimulating effect. Furthermore, overview spirulina, potential different applications foods, emerging technologies are covered review.

Arthrospira platensis, commonly known as Spirulina, is a photosynthetic filamentous cyanobacterium (blue–green microalga) that has been utilized food source since ancient times. More recently, it gained significant popularity dietary supplement due to its rich content of micro- and macro-nutrients. Of particular interest water soluble phycobiliprotein derived from Spirulina phycocyanin C (C-PC), which stands out the most abundant protein in this cyanobacterium. C-PC fluorescent protein, with chromophore represented by tetrapyrrole molecule phycocyanobilin B (PCB-B). While employed for coloring properties, also serves molecular basis numerous nutraceutical features associated Spirulina. Indeed, comprehensive C-PC, some extent, isolated PCB-B, linked various health-promoting effects. These benefits encompass conditions triggered oxidative stress, inflammation, other pathological conditions. The present review focuses on bio-pharmacological properties these molecules, positioning them promising agents potential new applications expanding market.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are one of the most important causes death worldwide. Dyslipidemia is main causal risk factors for CVD that can be controlled by modifying lifestyle, which entails use healthy diets containing functional foods. The present study was conducted to summarize effects Spirulina on lipid profile in previous randomized trials.MEDLINE, Scopus, Clarivate Analytics Web Science, and Cochrane Library databases were searched systematically until January 2023, clinical interventions investigated effect supplementation plasma concentrations.ooled results 20 studies (with 23 arms 1076 participants) indicated intervention significantly reduced LDL-C (SMD: -0.6, 95% CI: -0.9, -0.2, P<0.05), TC P<0.05) TG levels while HDL-C increased 0.3, 0.0, 0.6, P<0.05).The findings meta-analysis review show usefulness supplementing with improving serum TC, TG, LDL-C, HDL-C.

Lipid peroxidation is associated with the development of some pathologies, such as cardiovascular diseases. Reduction in oxidative stress by antioxidants, Arthrospira (formely Spirulina), helps improving this redox imbalance. The aim study was to evaluate effect liquid extract "Spirulysat®" on markers-in particular, oxidized LDL (oxLDL)/total cholesterol-and isoprostanes and investigate its impact lipid glucose metabolism metabolic syndrome subject. A controlled, randomised, double-blind design conducted 40 subjects aged 18 65 years after a daily intake Spirulysat® or placebo for twelve weeks. Blood urinary samples were collected at three visits (V1, V2, V3) two groups parameters determination. Although group showed decrease all oxLDL/total cholesterol ratio, there no significant difference compared (p = 0.36). concentration reduced 0.014) V3. Plasma triglycerides decreased V3 0.003) HDL-cholesterol increased 0.031) Spirulysat®. In conclusion, did not change (oxLDL)/LDL ratio but isoprostanes, plasma HDL cholesterol, suggesting beneficial syndrome.
