The ubiquitous environmental presence of tris(2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP) poses a potential threat to animals; however, little is known about its hepatotoxicity. In this study, the effects TCEP exposure (0.5 and 5.0 μg/L for 28 days) on liver health underlying toxification mechanisms were investigated in zebrafish. Our results demonstrated that led hepatic tissue lesions resulted significant alterations liver-injury-specific markers. Moreover, TCEP-exposed fish had significantly lower levels thyrotropin-releasing hormone thyroid-stimulating brain, evidently less triiodothyronine whereas more thyroxine plasma, markedly altered expressions genes from hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis brain or liver. addition, higher proportion Bacteroidetes gut microbiota, an elevated bacterial source endotoxin lipopolysaccharide (LPS) upregulated expression LPS-binding protein Toll-like receptor 4 liver, proinflammatory cytokines detected Furthermore, also suffered severe oxidative damage, possibly due disruption antioxidant system. These findings suggest may exert hepatotoxic zebrafish by disrupting HPT gut-liver axes thereafter inducing inflammation stress.

The marine environment has numerous impacts related to anthropogenic activities including pollution. Abundances of microplastics (MPs) and other pollutants are continuously increasing in the environment, resulting a complex mixture contaminants affecting biota. In order understand consequences, review studies analyzing combined effects MPs types bivalves been conducted as species this group have considered sentinel bioindicators. Regarding reviewed, histological analyses give evidence that can be located haemolymph, gills gonads, well digestive glands intestinal lumen, epithelium tubules, demonstrating entire body is affected by MPs. Moreover, DNA strand breaks represent most relevant form damage caused enhanced production reactive oxygen response exposure. role vectors ability polymers adsorb different compounds also highlighting high variability results. sense, toxic associated exposure were found significantly increase with co-presence antibiotics or petroleum hydrocarbons amongst pollutants. addition, bioaccumulation processes (PAHs, metals others) Histological, genetic physiological alterations reported damages, degree harm seems correlated concentration size MP type pollutant.
