The vaginal microbiome is a distinct component of the human that colonized by wide variety microorganisms. Lactobacilli are most frequently identified microorganisms in healthy vagina. These Gram-positive bacilli can acidify microenvironment, inhibit proliferation other pathogenic microorganisms, and promote maintenance eubiotic microbiome. However, flora with reduced proportion or abundance lactobacilli associated various infections have been linked to serious health consequences such as infertility, preterm birth, pelvic inflammatory disease, premature rupture membranes, miscarriage. More than one million curable sexually transmitted infections occur every day. Trichomonas vaginalis is of the main responsible for these epidemiological data; however, diagnosis this protozoan still mainly based on microscopic and culture identification. The commercialization immunological tests development molecular techniques have improved sensitivity classical methods. Nevertheless, fact that trichomoniasis a neglected parasitic infection hinders novel their implementation in routine diagnosis. This review article shows different methods developed to identify T. population difficulties diagnosing male asymptomatic patients. importance including parasite gynecological screening, especially pregnant women, considering as an indicator high-risk sexual behavior are also discussed.

Background/Objectives: A wide range of syphilis-related pregnancy complications are encountered in clinical practice. Active surveillance the epidemiological situation different countries and a series retrospective data analyses allow for comprehensive assessment feasible consequences syphilis infection during pregnancy. The negative effects on reproductive health also described. Risk-increasing factors (inadequate or late treatment, partner coinfection) protective (timely diagnostics treatment) distinguished. importance adequate timely management as well accessibility healthcare socioeconomic status, which influence outcomes, stressed. This article presents rare case untreated was diagnosed first antenatal visit; how-ever, treatment not initiated. At 33rd week gestation, patient admitted to hospital because sparse bloody vaginal discharge. Following sudden fetal hypoxia, an urgent cesarean section performed at 33 weeks gestation. preterm newborn delivered critical condition, congenital diagnosed. Methods: We searched PubMed, Cochrane, MeSH databases using key search terms “treponema pallidum”, “sexually transmitted infections”, “pregnancy”, “congenital infection”, “syphilis”, syphilis”, their combinations. total 28 papers published over ten-year period were included literature review. analyzed. Results: impact is quite evident. Our showcased one most common impacts, i.e., premature birth, infections with associated bacterial meningitis, respiratory distress syndrome, multiple organ damage, insufficient weight. Such associations many adverse outcomes neonatal defects often avoidable. Conclusions: Considering potential infections, issue sexually diseases remains relevant, improving diagnostic opportunities becomes paramount cases increase.

Women need multipurpose prevention technologies (MPTs) to simultaneously prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV, with or without contraception. User feedback early in product development is critical for maximizing uptake and continuation. Our global online survey (April 2017-December 2018) explored women's opinions about MPT formulations (e.g., fast-dissolving vaginal inserts, films, intravaginal rings, injectables, implants), preferences long-acting "on-demand" methods, interest a contraceptive versus products HIV/STI alone. Of the 630 women our final analysis (mean 30 years old; range 18-49), 68% were monogamous, 79% completed secondary education, 58% had ≥ 1 child, 56% from sub-Saharan Africa 82% preferred cMPT There no clear any specific type (long-acting, on-demand, daily). No single will appeal everyone, however, adding contraception likely increase of methods most women.

Abstract The use of self-collected specimens as an alternative to healthcare worker-collected for diagnostic testing has gained increasing attention in recent years. This systematic review aimed assess the accuracy compared across different sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including Chlamydia trachomatis (CT), human papillomavirus (HPV), Mycoplasma genitalium (MG), Neisseria gonorrhoea (NG), Treponema pallidum and Trichomonas vaginalis (TV) females. A rigorous process was followed screen studies various electronic databases. quality included assessed using Quality Assessment Diagnostic Accuracy Studies 2 tool. There were no on syphilis that met criteria inclusion review. total six chlamydia, five HPV, four MG, seven trichomoniasis However, not all sub-group meta-analysis. analysis revealed demonstrated comparable most STIs. indicates can provide accurate results enhance access testing, potentially improving service delivery. Future research should further explore larger more diverse populations.
