Sleep disorders affect a large portion of the global population and are strong predictors morbidity all-cause mortality. staging segments period sleep into sequence phases providing basis for most clinical decisions in medicine. Manual is difficult time-consuming as experts must evaluate hours polysomnography (PSG) recordings with electroencephalography (EEG) electrooculography (EOG) data each patient. Here, we present U-Sleep, publicly available, ready-to-use deep-learning-based system automated ( sleep.ai.ku.dk ). U-Sleep fully convolutional neural network, which was trained evaluated on PSG from 15,660 participants 16 studies. It provides accurate segmentations across wide range patient cohorts protocols not considered when building system. works arbitrary combinations typical EEG EOG channels, its special deep learning architecture can label stages at shorter intervals than 30 s periods used during training. We show that these labels provide additional diagnostic information lead to new ways analyzing sleep. performs par state-of-the-art automatic systems multiple datasets, even if other were built specifically particular data. Over a quarter of the workforce in industrialized countries does shift work, which increases risk for cardiometabolic disease. Yet workers are often excluded from lifestyle intervention studies to reduce this risk. Sleep changes significantly throughout the human lifespan. Physiological modifications in sleep regulation, common with many mammals (especially circadian rhythms), predispose adolescents to loss until early adulthood. Background Assessment of sleep quality is essential to address poor and understand changes. Owing the advances in Internet Things wearable technologies, monitoring under free-living conditions has become feasible practicable. Smart rings smartwatches can be employed perform mid- or long-term home-based monitoring. However, validity such wearables should investigated terms parameters. Sleep validation studies are mostly limited short-term laboratory tests; there a need for study assess attributes everyday settings, where users engage their daily routines. Objective This aims evaluate parameters Oura ring along with Samsung Gear Sport watch comparison medically approved actigraphy device midterm setting, Methods We conducted which 45 healthy individuals (23 women 22 men) were tracked 7 days. Results found significant correlations between ring’s actigraphy’s TST (r=0.86; P<.001), WASO (r=0.41; SE (r=0.47; P<.001). OBJECTIVE People with type 2 diabetes may have insufficient or prolonged sleep that could accelerate cardiovascular disease (CVD) onset, but existing evidence from prospective studies has been limited. We examined the association of duration CVD incidence and mortality in this high-risk population. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS This study included 18,876 participants UK Biobank who were free cancer at baseline. Habitual was obtained using a baseline questionnaire. Cox proportional hazards regression models used to examine between events. RESULTS During an average follow-up 11.0–12.0 years, we documented 2,570 incident cases atherosclerotic (ASCVD) 598 deaths. Compared sleeping for 7 h/day, multivariable-adjusted hazard ratios ≤5 ≥10 h/day 1.26 (95% CI 1.08, 1.48) 1.41 (1.16, 1.70) ASCVD, 1.22 (0.99, 1.50) 1.16 (0.88, 1.52) coronary artery disease, 1.70 (1.23, 2.35) 2.08 (1.44, 3.01) ischemic stroke, 1.02 (0.72, 1.44) 1.45 (1.01, 2.10) peripheral 1.42 (1.02, 1.97) 1.85 (1.30, 2.64) mortality. Similar results observed most sensitivity analyses aimed address potential reverse causation joint metabolic control severity status. CONCLUSIONS Short long durations independently associated increased risks onset death among people diabetes.
