Abstract Most cancer deaths are caused by metastasis: recurrence of disease disseminated tumour cells at sites distant from the primary tumour. In review, we revisit concept non-healing wound, first introduced Virchow in 19th century, with new cell-intrinsic perspective on inflammation focus metastasis. Despite over a century of intensive efforts, the great gains promised by War on Cancer nearly 50 years ago have not materialized. Since 1999, we analyzed lack progress in explaining and "curing" cancer examining merits premises that determine how is understood treated. Our ongoing critical analyses aimed at clarifying sources misunderstandings root puzzle while providing plausible comprehensive biomedical perspective as well new theory carcinogenesis compatible with evolutionary theory. In this essay, explain theory, tissue organization field (TOFT), can help chart path to for researchers features remain unexplainable from still hegemonic somatic mutation (SMT) its variants. Of equal significance, underlying TOFT offer perspectives basic biological phenomena.
