Sex plays a crucial role in shaping the immune response of vertebrates, leading to differing susceptibilities diseases between females and males. This review explores observed sexually dimorphic patterns different pathogenic infections, responses, molecular events. First, compilation historical guidelines for incorporating gender/sex as variable research studies enhance scientific rigor, improve outcomes, promote better health both sexes has been carried out. Following this, study focuses on examining sex-based differences responses across taxa, with an in-depth available fish, particularly regarding prevalence sex-related parasites, viruses, bacteria. Furthermore, benefits considering sexual dimorphism when evaluating fish management aquaculture ecological contexts have discussed. Integrating sex understanding will positively influence welfare, economic impacts, policymaking, more tailored effective treatments.

Outbreaks of furunculosis cause significant losses in salmonid aquaculture worldwide. With a recent rise antimicrobial resistance, regulatory measures to minimize the use antibiotics animal husbandry, including aquaculture, have increased scrutiny and availability veterinary medical products control this disease production facilities. In such environment, utility autogenous vaccines assist with prevention as veterinary-guided prophylactic measure is high interest producers services alike. However, evolving concepts epidemiological units links need be considered during approval acceptance procedures for application multiple Here, we present results solid-state nanopore sequencing (Oxford Nanopore Technologies, ONT) performed on 54 isolates Aeromonas salmonicida ssp. sampled clinical outbreaks different facilities from Bavaria, Germany, 2017 2020. All analyses (phylogeny, single nucleotide polymorphism 3D protein modeling major immunogenic proteins) support probability that all studied belong same unit. Simultaneously, describe cost/effective method whole genome analysis usage ONT viable strategy study other pathogens field aquatic medicine purpose developing best vaccine candidates applicable establishments.
