Numerous factors contribute to the relationship between childhood maltreatment and depressive symptoms in later life, with emotion dysregulation being a key component. This study explored mediating role of difficulties regulation irrational beliefs symptoms. The Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Difficulties Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS-16), Shortened General Attitude Belief (SGABS) were administered total 354 participants aged 18-61. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed test several models. initial model proposed that link depression would be mediated by beliefs. results indicated did not fit data showed no significant depression, leading its removal from model. In subsequent models, subscales CTQ examined. found fully mediate emotional abuse, sexual physical while partially neglect subscales. Results highlight importance understanding multiple mechanisms involved adult symptomatology.

Importance Prospective and retrospective measures of childhood maltreatment identify largely different groups individuals. However, it is unclear if these are differentially associated with psychopathology. Objective To analyze the associations prospective Data Sources Based on a preregistered protocol, Embase, PsycInfo, MEDLINE were searched for peer-reviewed studies published by January 1, 2023, that measured child Study Selection Titles abstracts all articles captured search full texts potentially eligible independently screened 2 authors. Observational association psychopathology included. Extraction Synthesis Multiple investigators extracted data. Multilevel random-effects meta-analyses used to pool results test predictors heterogeneity. Main Outcome Measures Associations between or psychopathology, both unadjusted adjusted (ie, measures, vice versa), moderation preselected variables. Results The based 24 including 15 485 individuals (51.0% female; mean age, 21.3 years at report). Retrospective showed stronger relative in analyses (retrospective measures: odds ratio [OR], 2.21; 95%, 1.94-2.42 vs OR, 1.56; 95% CI, 1.39-1.76) 2.14; 1.90-2.42 1.27; 1.13-1.41). There was no statistically significant when assessment self-reports focused internalizing emotional disorders. Conclusions Relevance Psychopathology more strongly measures—which capture first-person, subjective appraisal events reflected memory recall—compared essentially third-person accounts such events. Maltreatment-related may be driven interpretations experiences, distressing memories, schemas, which could targeted cognitive interventions.

ABSTRACT Introduction Childhood maltreatment (CM) and depression are serious global issues with high prevalence lifelong impacts on physical mental health. CM has been proposed as a modifiable risk factor for that, if prevented, may contribute to reduction in the incidence of depressive disorders. Despite this, there is paucity reviews examining strength association between these variables. The aim this systematic review meta‐analysis was evaluate empirical evidence determine supported preventable depression. Methods A search performed July 2024 all peer‐reviewed journal articles written English relationship adult electronic databases EBSCOhost , Proquest Embase . Studies were included they measured before 18 years age independent variable dependent variable. excluded outcome grouped comorbidity did not report primary quantitative data. total 77 studies 516,302 participants met inclusion criteria review. Results random‐effects used generate pooled odds ratio from 87 effect estimates demonstrated that individuals history any 2.5 times more likely experience ( OR = 2.49 [95% CI: 2.25–2.76]).
