Daytime light levels are important for human physiology. Office workers spend most of their daytime inside buildings where it is unclear whether they receive healthy levels. A recent publication presented recommendations the minimum level optimal health, expressed in melanopic equivalent daylight illuminance (EDI). The current paper assesses this recommended achieved by office through a meta-analysis personal workers, obtained from light-dosimetry field studies. From our literature search, we identified nine eligible papers. These papers comprised data studies one or multiple buildings, over more seasons, 1 to 62 participants, and 19 564 workdays. After analysing data, found that none offices 250 EDI was met entire day. Only out 6 median 13 mean reported were above value. Unfortunately, these conclusions less groundbreaking than hoped for, due large differences between study protocols. This resulted variety (unreported) characteristics (i.e. light-dosimeter, participant, building environment) which complicated fair comparison different To facilitate meta-analyses studies, introduce collection reporting We based on gaps meta-analysis, supplemented other

Ocular light exposure has important influences on human health and well-being through modulation of circadian rhythms sleep, as well neuroendocrine cognitive functions. Prevailing patterns do not optimally engage these actions for many individuals, but advances in our understanding the underpinning mechanisms emerging lighting technologies now present opportunities to adjust promote optimal physical mental performance. A newly developed, international standard provides a SI-compliant way quantifying influence intrinsically photosensitive, melanopsin-expressing, retinal neurons that mediate effects. The report recommendations lighting, based an expert scientific consensus expressed easily measured quantity (melanopic equivalent daylight illuminance (melaponic EDI)) defined within this standard. are supported by detailed analysis sensitivity circadian, neuroendocrine, alerting responses ocular provide straightforward framework inform design practice.

Light use is rising steeply, mainly because of the advent light-emitting diode (LED) devices. LEDs are frequently blue-enriched light sources and may have different impacts on non-image forming (NIF) system, which maximally sensitive to blue-wavelength light. Most importantly, timing LED device widespread, leading novel exposure patterns NIF system. The goal this narrative review discuss multiple aspects that we think should be accounted for when attempting predict how situation will affect impact brain functions. We first cover both image-forming pathways brain. then detail our current understanding human cognition, sleep, alertness, mood. Finally, questions concerning adoption lighting screens, offer new opportunities improve well-being, but also raise concerns about increasing exposure, detrimental health, particularly in evening.

Background The increasing prevalence of work-related stress and mental health issues has become a global concern, particularly in developing countries. light environment office spaces, known to influence both visual non-visual aspects health, is critical factor that needs further exploration for its potential enhancing employees’ psychological well-being. Objective aim our study was investigate the role environments spaces influencing well-being employees. Methods conducted 2 locations Shanghai Dalian, China analyzed data from 235 Data on effects were self-reported by participants, employees measured dimensions (differences color perception, differences perception between natural dynamic lighting artificial static lighting). hue lightness employee psychology, versus conventional mood analyzed. Results findings revealed luminance significantly affect satisfaction emotional states. Specifically, lighting, which aligns with photoperiod, found effectively reduce negative emotions such as anger depression, offering promising intervention improving workplace. Conclusions settings plays significant mitigating among While confirms positive it also highlights need interdisciplinary research fully understand complex mechanisms involved.
