Children
and
adolescents
who
sustain
an
acquired
brain
injury
(ABI)
can
experience
acute
ongoing
difficulties
in
a
range
of
cognitive
functional
domains,
their
families
often
significant
life
changes
challenges.
Family-centred
service
is
therefore
considered
best
practice
paediatric
ABI
rehabilitation.
Despite
widespread
acceptance
family-centred
this
context,
recent
literature
indicates
that
family
needs
are
unrecognised
unmet
following
ABI.
Although
was
introduced
the
field
developmental
disability
over
five
decades
ago,
there
remains
lack
clarity
about
how
approach
implemented
practice.
Additionally,
limited
has
discussed
implementation
rehabilitation
despite
key
differences
between
disability,
including
nature
timing
onset,
foci,
impacts
on
families.In
review,
we
aim
to:
(i)
outline
common
sequelae
with
focus
outcomes;
(ii)
summarise
highlight
opportunities
for
support
involvement;
(iii)
discuss
synthesise
across
to
gaps
knowledge
practice;
(v)
identify
clinical
implications
future
research
directions.There
clear
need
greater
consensus
regarding
This
review
highlights
importance
providing
professional
development
clinicians
increase
competency
practising
manner,
actively
involve,
empower
within
also
emphasises
services
implementing
relevant
supports
address
where
possible
developing
referral
pathways
so
