Many concerns are being expressed about the biodegradability, biocompatibility, and long-term viability of polymer-based substances. This prompted quest for an alternative source material that could be utilized various purposes. Starch is widely used as a thickener, emulsifier, binder in many food non-food sectors, but research focuses on increasing its application beyond these areas. Due to low cost, renewability, abundance, starch considered "green path" raw generating porous substances such aerogels, biofoams, bioplastics, which have sparked academic interest. Existing has focused strategies developing biomaterials from organic polymers (e.g., cellulose), there been little polysaccharide counterpart (starch). review paper highlighted structure starch, context amylose amylopectin, extraction modification with their processes limitations. Moreover, this describes nanofillers, intelligent pH-sensitive films, aerogels types, precursors, including drying manufacturing. The perspectives reveal great potential starch-based food, pharmaceuticals, biomedicine, applications.

Zein is the major protein in corn and main byproduct of starch industry and, therefore, crucial for global agricultural commodities. Its unique fibre-forming properties, which underline its potential as a biodegradable material, have drawn intensified interest from public, scientists, industries because growing concern about environmental risks. As zein electrospun nanofibre has been studied different research fields, recent advances nanofibres therapeutic field need re-examination. This review provides an overview various methods modifications (e.g., crosslinking, deamidation glycosylation on properties setups emulsion multi-layer electrospinning) last decade reports current applications such controlled release, wound healing, tissue engineering biosensor. It also discussed mechanisms electrostatic interactions, hydrophobic van der Waals forces. The biocompatibility, encapsulation make it replacement traditional synthetic materials. Since specific zein-based materials are acquirable via processing, developing insight into relationship between functions microstructure conformations modified along with processes could contribute to high-quality fibrous products. limitations challenges nanofibres.

Petroleum-based plastics were widely used as packaging materials. However, plastic materials not reusable and biodegradable, causing a severe negative impact on the environment. Edible films can be suitable alternative to films, particularly in food packaging. This research work prepared edible containing blends of cornstarch, arrowroot powder, refined wheat flour, vinegar, glycerol. Arrowroot powder added strength nutritional value films. Glycerol, plasticiser, improved flexibility The combination vinegar glycerol increased film's strength. characteristic properties like thickness, bursting strength, moisture content, transparency, water-solubility, water vapour permeability, tensile elongation, Young's modulus, analysed. thermal stability was evaluated by thermogravimetric analysis. characterised FTIR spectroscopy, their surface morphology analysed scanning electron microscopy. exhibited excellent for packaging. The online version contains supplementary material available at 10.1007/s13197-023-05803-2.
