To improve the ecological effectiveness of agri-environment-climate measures (AECM), collective approaches to co-ordinate AECM beyond farm level have emerged, which are characterised by different levels co-operation between individual farmers. As participation is voluntary, understanding farmers' perspectives on action in context these economic incentive instruments crucial existing or design novel approaches. We conducted a Q study viewpoints Netherlands, where all be realised jointly since 2016. Our results reveal three dominant views AECM: collective-oriented, business-oriented and an environment-oriented perspective. Clear preferences for approach show that even cultures with strong values independence joint possible, as autonomy can strengthened through co-operation. Considering within institutional help develop more targeted, thus successful, incentives.

Agricultural landscapes are the result of long-term, complex, and intermingled interfaces between nature culture. Among stakeholders involved in production agri-environmental climate services, farmers play a crucial role, their contribution should be duly acknowledged to promote sustainable land management. Intensive animal production, vast amounts of biogas plants, and the spreading manure digestates, exerts strong pressure on water quality in German federal state Lower Saxony. Catch cover crop (c&c) cultivation is seen as one measure to inhibit nitrate leaching into soils, prevent pollution with nitrates. A document analysis was carried out, covering time span 1992 2020, findings were combined available quantitative data same period, GIS analysis. From 1994 year acreage subsidized c&cs increased from ca. 10,000 ha 380,000 ha. In addition, there an unsubsidized about 100,000 declining 50,000 comparison, arable land remained at approximately 1,880,000 We found that did not contribute substantially protection for following reasons: design measure, control farmer’s actions, antagonistic trend due increase numbers plants. The development over space reveals frame conditions management requirements cultivating need be well designed effective efficient (with regard N reduction costs). It vital coordinate all programs schemes region. our evaluation, we conclude a such c&c cultivation, which simple introduce easy control, should implemented winter mandatory order achieve greater uptake.
