Background: We evaluated the validity and reliability of operational definition type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) based on Korean National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) database. Methods: Adult subjects (≥40 years old) included in Korea Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) from 2008 to 2017 were merged with those NHIS health check-up database, producing a cross-sectional dataset. sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, agreement criteria for defining T2DM by comparing them KNHANES as standard reference. Results: In study population (n=13,006), two algorithms devised determine dataset whether diagnostic claim codes accompanied prescription anti-diabetic drugs (algorithm 1) or not 2). Using these algorithms, prevalence was 14.9% (n=1,942; algorithm 20.8% (n=2,707; Good observed both (Kappa index, 0.73 [algorithm 1], 0.63 2]). However, accuracy (0.93 vs. 0.89) specificity (0.96 0.90) tended be higher 1 than 2. The (accuracy, ranging 0.91 0.95) 0.68 0.78) independent age, sex, socioeconomic status, hypertension dyslipidemia. Conclusion: population-based claims data, including codes, could valid tool identify individuals population.

Abstract The clinical utility of a type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) polygenic risk score (PRS) in the East Asian population remains underexplored. We aimed to examine potential prognostic value T2DM PRS and assess its viability as instrument. first established for 5490 Korean individuals using Biobank data (269,487 samples). Subsequently, we assessed predictive capability this prospective longitudinal study with baseline from seven additional follow-ups. Our analysis showed that could predict transition glucose tolerance stages normal prediabetes T2DM. Moreover, patients top-decile group were more likely be treated insulin (hazard ratio = 1.69, p 2.31E−02) than those remaining groups. values significantly high severe subgroup, characterized by resistance $$\beta$$ β -cell dysfunction (p 0.0012). prediction models had greater Harrel’s C-indices did corresponding without it. By utilizing extensive factor information, our provides valuable insights into multifaceted PRS.

Korean Renal Data System (KORDS) is a nationwide end-stage renal disease (ESRD) registry database operated by the Society of Nephrology (KSN). Diabetes mellitus currently leading cause ESRD in Korea; this article provides an update on trends and characteristics diabetic patients. The KORDS Committee KSN collects data dialysis centers patients through online program. Here, we analyzed status chronic kidney stage 5D (CKD 5D) using from 2001 to 2021. In 2021, adequacy hemodialysis (HD) was lower CKD than nondiabetic patients, while that peritoneal (PD) similar. Diabetic had higher proportion cardiac vascular diseases were more frequently admitted hospitals death disease. From 2020, mortality rate but 2021 trend reversed. PD highest over 20 years. HD until 2019 became starting 2020. There decreasing still prevalent with frequent admissions hospitals. More specialized care needed improve clinical outcomes

Background Type 2 diabetes poses an increasing disease burden in South Korea. The development and management of type are closely related to lifestyle socioeconomic factors, which have undergone substantial changes over the past few decades, including during COVID-19 pandemic. Objective This study aimed investigate long-term trends prevalence, awareness, treatment, control. It also determine whether there were alterations pandemic these more pronounced within specific demographic groups. Methods examined control a representative sample 139,786 Koreans aged >30 years, using data from National Health Nutrition Examination Survey covering period 1998 2022. Weighted linear regression binary logistic performed calculate weighted β coefficients or odds ratios. Stratified analyses based on sex, age, region residence, obesity status, educational background, household income, smoking status. (difference) was calculated analyze trend difference between prepandemic To identify groups susceptible diabetes, we estimated interaction terms for each factor Results From 2022, consistent increase prevalence observed among Koreans, with notable rise 15.61% (95% CI 14.83-16.38) Awareness followed U-shaped curve, bottoming out at 64.37% 61.79-66.96) 2013 2015 before 72.56% 70.39-74.72) Treatment increased time, peaking 68.33% 65.95-70.71) Control participants showed no change, maintaining rate 29.14% 26.82-31.47) 2020 while treated improved 30.68% 27.88-33.48). During pandemic, steepening curves awareness treatment. However, slope being increased, change Older populations individuals lower level exhibited less improvement than younger educated individuals. People income experienced deceleration Conclusions Over recent decade, has been steeper observed. heterogeneous across different population groups, underscoring need targeted interventions address disparities improve populations.

Objective Prevention of tuberculosis (TB) recurrence is an important issue in TB control. South Korea, a country with high average income, has been challenged intermediate burden TB. We aimed to estimate the rate after successful completion first anti-TB chemotherapy, and identify risk factors for by focusing on co-morbidities behavioral factors. Methods This population-based cohort study using data from National Health Insurance (NHI) database between 2002 2013. Newly diagnosed patients were identified classification disease codes prescription records. Final analytical subjects included people who successfully completed chemotherapy. The primary outcome measure was recurrent 6-month treatment completion. A set associated factors, including demographic characteristics, co-morbidities, health behavior analyzed Cox regression analysis. Results Among 5,446 patients, 2,226 (40.1%) treatment. During follow-up period, 150 (6.7%) had recurrence, crude 22.6 per 1000 person-years. majority cases (89%) occurred within 2-year period. major findings show that participants are male (adjusted HR (aHR) = 1.81, at 95% CI, range: 1.11–2.94), older age (aHR 1.07, 1.00–1.14), have lower income 1.96, 1.10–3.48) underweight 1.92, range 1.15–3.20) higher risks recurrence. Conclusion People need improve compliance through more effective management, observation one or two years
