Sleep‐related complaints are widely prevalent in those with alcohol dependence (AD). AD is associated not only insomnia, but also multiple sleep‐related disorders as a growing body of literature has demonstrated. This article will review the various aspects insomnia . In addition, association other be briefly reviewed. The bidirectional nature. etiopathogenesis demonstrated associations and an active focus research. Treatment cognitive behavioral therapy for showing promise optimal intervention. may circadian abnormalities, short sleep duration, obstructive apnea, movement disorder. burgeoning knowledge on moderate‐to‐severe use disorder expanded our understanding its underlying neurobiology, clinical features, treatment options.

The purpose of this review is to synthesize the published literature that addresses employer-initiated interventions improve sleep workers and in turn health, productivity, absenteeism, other outcomes have been associated with disorders or deficiency. We conducted a systematic search selective narrative publications PubMed from 1966 December 2017. We extracted study characteristics, including workers' professions, workplace settings shift work, focused on worker sleep. Because high degree heterogeneity design outcomes, we review. We identified 219 publications. After restriction studies evaluated duration quality, 47 articles. An additional 13 articles were accepted pearling process. Most employed non-randomized controlled pretest posttest designs self-reported measures most common educational programs stressing hygiene fatigue management. Other included timed napping before after urging increased daytime activity levels, modifying environmental characteristics such as lighting, screening, referral for treatment. Overall, reports indicated employer efforts encourage improved healthier habits result improvements duration, sleepiness complaints. These suggest employer-sponsored can sleep-related outcomes. existing evidence, although weak, suggests by employers better general fitness may be reduced absenteeism overall quality life. Many processes are involved in sleep regulation, including the ingestion of nutrients, suggesting a link between diet and sleep. Aside from studies investigating effects tryptophan, previous research on has primarily focused deprivation or restriction diet. Furthermore, reviews have included subjects with clinically diagnosed sleep-related disorders. The current narrative review aimed to clarify findings sleep-promoting foods outline otherwise healthy adults. A search was undertaken August 2019 Cochrane, MEDLINE (PubMed), CINAHL databases using population, intervention, control, outcome (PICO) method. Eligible were classified based emerging themes reviewed synthesis. Four emerged: tryptophan consumption depletion, dietary supplements, food items, macronutrients. High carbohydrate diets, containing melatonin, phytonutrients (e.g., cherries), linked improved outcomes. authors posit that these may be due part influences serotonin melatonin activity.

Hypertension, defined as persistently elevated systolic blood pressure (SBP) >140 mmHg and/or diastolic (DBP) at least 90 (International Society of Hypertension guidelines), affects over 1.5 billion people worldwide. is associated with increased risk cardiovascular disease (CVD) events (e.g. coronary heart disease, failure and stroke) death. Short sleep duration and poor quality are associated with cardiovascular risk, sympathetic nervous system (SNS) dysfunction appears to be a key contributor. The present review will characterize function across several disorders insufficiencies in humans, including deprivation, insomnia, narcolepsy, obstructive apnea (OSA). We focus on direct assessments of activation, e.g., plasma norepinephrine muscle nerve activity, but include heart rate variability (HRV) when lacking. also highlights sex as biological variable. Experimental models total deprivation restriction converging support epidemiological studies reporting an association between short hypertension, especially women. A systemic increase SNS activity via is insomnia has been confirmed direct, regionally specific evidence from microneurographic studies. Narcolepsy characterized by autonomic both HRV opposing conclusions regarding activation. Robust sympathoexcitation well documented OSA related baroreflex chemoreflex dysfunction. Treatment continuous positive airway pressure results sympathoinhibition. In summary, often and/or sympathetic/baroreflex dysfunction, suggesting women may at heightened risk.

Nonoscillatory measures of brain activity such as the spectral slope and Lempel–Ziv complexity are affected by many neurological disorders modulated sleep. A multitude frequency ranges, particularly a broadband (encompassing full spectrum) narrowband approach, have been used especially for estimating slope. However, effects choosing different ranges not yet explored in detail. Here, we evaluated impact sleep stage task engagement (resting, attention, memory) on (30–45 Hz) (1–45 range 28 healthy male human subjects (21.54 ± 1.90 years) using within-subject design over 2 weeks with three recording nights days per subject.
