Propolis is a natural substance collected by honey bees from various plants such as, poplar, palm, pine, conifer secretions, gums, resins, mucilage and leaf buds. It brought very painstakingly to be used for sealing cracks crevices occurring in their hives. Originally, it as an antiseptic meant preventing bee-hive microbial infections along with decomposition of intruders. Additionally, propolis has been folk medicine centuries. The biological characteristics depend upon its chemical composition, plant sources, geographical zone seasons. More than 300 compounds have identified phenolic compounds, aromatic acids, essential oils, waxes amino acids. Many scientific articles are published every year different international journals, several groups researchers focused attention on the activity propolis.

Propolis is a resinous substance composed of mixture different plant parts and molecules secreted by bees. Chemically, it defined as complex matrix containing biologically active with antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antiparasitic, hepatoprotective, immunomodulatory activities. It widely employed in cosmetic formulations pharmaceutical products one the most used natural products. However, effects strength these biological activities depend on chemical profile composition each propolis type. Propolis has gained wide popularity over the last decades in several parts of world. In parallel, literature about propolis composition and biological properties increased markedly. A great number papers have demonstrated that from different world is composed mainly phenolic substances, frequently flavonoids, derived plant resins. a relevant role increasing social immunity bee hives. Experimental evidence indicates its components activity against bacteria, fungi, viruses. Mechanisms action on viruses are known for components. Experiments shown may act synergistically with antibiotics, antifungals, antivirus drugs, permitting administration lower doses drugs higher antimicrobial effects. Abstract Propolis, a complex bee product, is source of numerous bioactive principles, beneficial for human health, therefore it intensively studied. In the present work, extracts propolis from Bihor Romanian County were studied to identify relationship between polyphenolic derivatives profile and their antioxidant antimicrobial activity. Extracts obtained using water 25%, 50%, 70% ethanolic solutions (w/w), at 2:1, 4:1, 6:1 liquid: solid ratios (w/w). 21 quantified by UHPLC-MS, proving that composition strongly depends on solvent. The sum polyphenolics extracted varied 1.5 91.2 mg/g propolis. capacity was evaluated free radicals 2,2’-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6 sulfonic acid) diammonium salt (ABTS) 1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging methods. Antimicrobial efficiency tested against Gram-positive ( B. subtilis ), Gram-negative bacteria E. coli fungi C. albicans ) disc-diffusion method. All extracts, even aqueous ones, demonstrated antibacterial antifungal Chemometric methods (partial least squares) saturation-type model used evaluate contribution various principles in building extracts. Both experimental modelling results show 50% provide rich ensure good capacity.

Accumulating evidence shows that oxidative stress and inflammation contribute to the development of cardiovascular disease. It has been suggested propolis possesses antioxidant anti-inflammatory activities. In this study, effects main flavonoids (chrysin, pinocembrin, galangin, pinobanksin) extract were researched. The results showed cellular ROS (Reactive oxygen species) levels, enzymes, Nrf2 (Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related 2) nuclear translocation, expression NQO1 (NAD(P)H:quinone oxidoreductase 1) HO-1 (heme oxygenase regulated by different concentrations individual extract, which good pro-oxidant effects. For example, levels decreased; SOD CAT activities increased; protein was increased chrysin. demonstrated NO (Nitric Oxide), NOS Oxide Synthase), activation NF-κB signaling pathway inhibited in a dose-dependent manner extract. Moreover, revealed phytochemicals presented at lower but stronger higher concentrations. To maintain balance effects, it is possible activate kappa B) pathway.
