Importance

Cannabis use has increased, but there are few studies on frequent and daily cannabis among US adults. Individuals who engage in higher frequency may suffer more health consequences.

Objective

Design, Setting, Participants

This survey study included data from 21 states 2 territories reported the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System surveys 2016 to 2019. Cross-sectional adults ages 18 years older were used estimate demographic, socioeconomic, behavioral risk for use, taking into account strata sampling weights 4 combined data. Using a multivariable ordinal logistic analysis, association socioeconomic status, with past month examined.

Results

Higher younger (ages 18-34 years: adjusted odds ratio [aOR],4.12; 95% CI, 3.63-4.68; 35-64 aOR,2.22; 1.98-2.49), Black (aOR, 1.46; 1.33-1.71) Native American 1.25; 1.04-1.52) less attainment (high school less: aOR,1.09; 1.02-1.17; some college: aOR,1.27; 1.19-1.35). Being married 0.54; 0.51-0.58) identifying as Asian 0.60; 0.51-0.71) Hispanic 0.71; 0.65-0.77) lower-frequency after accounting other baseline factors.

Conclusions Relevance

OBJECTIVE: To understand pregnant patients' reasons for prenatal cannabis use and perceptions of safety, desired undesirable health care experiences, information about secondarily to racial differences in these preferences. METHODS: We conducted a qualitative study including 18 semi-structured, race-concordant virtual focus groups with individuals who self-reported at entry large integrated system Northern California from November 2021 December 2021. The included semi-structured questions that were recorded, transcribed, coded by the research team. Thematic analysis was used analyze data. RESULTS: Overall, 53 participants included; 30 self-identified, as White 23 self-identified Black. Participants averaged 30.3 years age (SD 5.2 years) on average 20.9 weeks gestation enrollment; 69.8% reported daily use, 24.5% weekly 5.7% monthly or less entrance care. Although some quit early pregnancy because concerns potential risks, many perceived lack scientific evidence believed safe. Many preferred over-the-counter prescription medications treating mood, morning sickness, pain, sleep. valued open interactions obstetricians acknowledged their motivations they risks through conversations educational materials. Black participants' perspectives generally similar, but few uniquely described bias related use. CONCLUSION: Pregnant patients manage mood medical symptoms, safer than medications. Introduction: Many health care providers would benefit from greater knowledge and awareness of medical cannabis, even if they choose not to integrate it into their practice. Unfortunately, generally report low cannabis cite this lack as a barrier making patient recommendations. It is important understand providers' its correlates. However, few studies have rigorously assessed clinically relevant cannabis-related knowledge, instead typically focusing on attitudes toward perceived knowledge. Perceptions of the health risks of cannabis: estimates from national surveys in Canada and the United States, 2018–2019 DOI Open Access

Few studies have compared knowledge of the specific health risks cannabis across jurisdictions. This study aimed to examine perceptions in Canada and US states with without legal non-medical cannabis. Cross-sectional data were collected from 2018 2019 International Cannabis Policy Study online surveys. Respondents aged 16-65 (n = 72 459) recruited Nielsen panels using non-probability methods. completed questions on nine effects (including two 'false' control items). Socio-demographic collected. Regression models tested differences outcomes between jurisdictions by frequency use, adjusting for socio-demographic factors. Across jurisdictions, agreement statements was highest driving after use (66-80%), during pregnancy/breastfeeding (61-71%) addiction (51-62%) lowest risk psychosis schizophrenia (23-37%). Additionally, 12-18% 6-7% respondents agreed assertions that could cure/prevent cancer cause diabetes, respectively. Health among Canadian respondents, followed had legalized not (P < 0.001). Overall, findings demonstrate a substantial deficit cannabis, particularly frequent consumers.
