Colitis, a chronic inflammatory bowel disease, is characterized by bloody diarrhea and inflammation in the colon. Lonicera hypoglauca (“Shanyinhua” Chinese) Scutellaria baicalensis (“Huangqin” are two traditional Chinese medicinal plants rich polyphenols, such as chlorogenic acid (CGA) baicalin (BA), with effects of anti-inflammation antioxidation. However, it remains unknown whether extracts from L. S. (LSEs) could mitigate colonic inflammation. In present study, ICR mice (22.23 ± 1.65 g) were allocated to three groups treated chow diet without (CON) or dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) (CON+DSS) water LSE supplementation DSS (LSE+DSS), then oxidative parameters microbiota detected. The results showed that (500 mg/kg) treatment mitigated DSS-induced colitis symptoms restored shortened colon length, increased disease activity index (DAI), damaged intestinal barrier. serum, significantly decreased levels pro-inflammatory cytokines including interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, lipopolysaccharide (LPS) IL-10 level.
