Fish collagen garnered significant academic and commercial focus in the last decades featuring prospective applications a variety of health-related industries, including food, medicine, pharmaceutics, cosmetics. Due to its distinct advantages over mammalian-based collagen, reduced zoonosis transmission risk, absence cultural-religious limitations, cost-effectiveness manufacturing process, superior bioavailability, use derived from fish wastes (i.e., skin, scales) quickly expanded. Moreover, by-products are low cost need minimize industry waste’s environmental impact paved way for discards development collagen-based products with remarkable added value. This review summarizes recent advances valorization extraction used several applications. Issues related processing characterization were presented. an overview most relevant food industry, nutraceutical, cosmetics, tissue engineering, packaging three years was introduced. Lastly, fish-collagen market open technological challenges reliable recovery exploitation this biopolymer discussed.

Food packaging trends have been changing in the last years, mainly due to consumer concerns about plastic pollution and agrifood waste. Recent advances development of edible films coatings are discussed. These systems can be much more than packaging, with additional functions such as antioxidant, antimicrobial, nutritional properties, among others. Challenges industrial processes and/or some films’ properties addressed from authors’ point view. The use residues these is included a promising strategy that promotes sustainability circular economy. authors consider research actions needed achieve best material for each food product reduced production costs.

This comprehensive review investigates a variety of creative approaches in the field sustainable food packaging biomaterials response to growing environmental concerns and negative effects traditional plastic packaging. The study carefully looks at new developments biomaterials, such as biodegradable polymers, ceramics, composites, metal alloys, need for environmentally suitable substitutes. It highlights how they might replace conventional lessen damage. Moreover, incorporation nanotechnology into is closely examined due its crucial function improving barrier qualities, introducing antimicrobial properties, smart features. investigation includes edible coatings films made polymers that offer sensory experiences addition prolonging shelf life products. emphasizes use derived from processing agricultural waste, supporting responsible methods producing materials while simultaneously using less resources waste. As strong defense against pollution, report industry's increasing recyclable packaging, which line with concepts circular economy. A movement consumer tastes regulatory pressures toward evident global market patterns. Notwithstanding these encouraging trends, there are still issues be resolved, including cost-effectiveness, technological constraints, scalability biomaterial production. thorough analysis concludes by highlighting critical role have played guiding industry sustainability emphasizing ongoing research development adequately address on worldwide scale satisfy demand friendly options. Biomaterials show great promise catalysts transition future.

New technologies for active food packaging that can protect and interact with the food, increasing its shelf life are currently being developed. Essential oils compounds that, in addition to providing antibacterial protection, improve functional mechanical properties of films. This research aimed evaluate influence orange (Citrus sinensis L.) essential oil (AEN) on physical antimicrobial films produced from cassava (Manihot esculenta) starch alginate (AY/AG) using plate diffusion technique. The were formulated different concentrations AEN (0.0, 0.5, 1.0 1.5 %). Elongation at break (EB), water vapor permeability (WVP), moisture content, solubility Luminosity (L*) decreased significantly (p < 0.05) AEN, other hand, tensile strength (TS), b* value (tendency towards yellow) opacity increased. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images showed a smooth, uniform appearance continuous dispersion between starch, alginate. results obtained indicated incorporation presented an inhibitory effect against Escherichia coli Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Therefore, have high potential be used development applications
