The objective of this work was to investigate the use nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) as a drug-delivery excipient for buccal films. Gel-like dispersions were created by blending either gel or powder NCC (gNCC pNCC) with natural polymers (alginate, pectin, chitosan) in water, glycerol serving plasticiser. Ibuprofen (IBU) an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) dissolved self-microemulsifying drug delivery system (SMEDDS) improve its solubility prior addition gel-like dispersions. Dispersions dried, and resulting films cut 3 cm × 1.5 size, appropriate delivery. Rheological measurements revealed that shorter, thinner, less crystalline nanocellulose fibres are more favourable stronger properties. While overall, weaker structure film casting also resulted shorter disintegration time, not case NCC–chitosan films; here, low chitosan neutral media proved be main obstacle. Nevertheless, prolonged did impact dissolution IBU, these exhibited fastest rate, followed NCC–pectin NCC–alginate. Furthermore, properties significantly influenced behaviour formulations, gNCC favouring faster IBU release due formation casting.

Oral administration is a widespread and convenient drug delivery approach. However, oral can be affected by the complex digestive tract environment, including irregular tissue morphology, presence of enzymes, mucus mucosal barriers, spatiotemporal variance in physiological parameters. These obstacles prevent many therapeutics. To overcome these challenges, devices designed with bioinspired compositions, structures or functions to make more drugs available for administration. Various have been developed harnessing biological materials living microorganisms, imitating functions. In this Review, we discuss design modification devices, examining engineering strategies target specific tissues applications. We highlight how key bottlenecks addressed through designs, concluding an outlook on remaining challenges towards clinical translation devices. commonly used strategy deliver harsh environment prevents negatively affect efficacy. ABSTRACT The present study aimed to optimize a mouth‐dissolving film (MDF) made from Pongamia pinnata stem bark extract increase patient compliance and accelerate oral disease therapy. Several extracts were prepared, karanjin was used as an herbal marker for the extracts. ethanolic showed maximum yield (12.10% ± 0.09%) cytotoxic activity against human cancer (KB 3‐1) embryonic kidney cell lines. MDF formulation focused on incorporating fixed amount of varying concentrations HPMC E5 polymer, along with evaluating performance plasticizers like PEG 400 propylene glycol (PG). An optimized determined based disintegration time, wetting folding endurance. consisted film‐forming PG superior plasticizer, ascorbic acid antioxidant, other ingredients contributing solubility, dispersion, sweetening, appearance. High‐performance thin‐layer chromatography‐mass spectrometry analysis confirmed higher levels in formulation, ensuring its successful incorporation stability. Taste masking evaluations indicate favorable taste profile high potential compliance. stability displayed no significant changes physical characteristics film, affirming quality. In conclusion, developed herbal‐based presents promising drug delivery system, offering enhanced compliance, masking, holds great effective treatment management diseases, providing convenience improved therapeutic outcomes.
