Microplastic pollution seriously threatens the health and safety of humans wildlife. Avian is one main species endangered by microplastics. However, damage mechanism microplastics to digestive system avian not clear. The gut-liver axis a bidirectional channel that regulates exchange information between gut liver also key target for tissue caused pollutants. This study aimed elucidate toxicity in role it. We constructed an exposure model environmental concentrations toxicological chickens reveal polystyrene (PS-MPs) 16S rRNA, transcriptomics metabolomics. PS-MPs changed death mode from apoptosis necrosis pyroptosis upregulating Caspase 8, disrupting intestinal vascular barrier, disturbing flora promoting accumulation lipopolysaccharide. Harmful metabolites were translocated through liver-gut axis, eliciting hepatic immune responses lipid metabolism disorders apoptosis. Liver injury involves multiple molecular effects mitochondrial dynamics disturbance, oxidative stress, endoplasmic reticulum cell cycle disturbance. Furthermore, metabolomics suggested caffeine melanin may be potential natural resistance substances Taken together, our data demonstrate avian, revealing critical will provide reference protecting populations.

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease closely associated with reactive oxygen species (ROS) involvement. Eliminating ROS to control the periodontal microenvironment and alleviate response could potentially serve as an efficacious therapy for periodontitis. Melatonin (MT), renowned its potent antioxidant anti-inflammatory characteristics, frequently employed scavenger in diseases. However, therapeutic efficacy of MT remains unsatisfactory due low water solubility poor bioavailability. Carbon dots have emerged promising innovative nanomaterial facile synthesis, environmental friendliness, cost. In this study, melatonin-derived carbon (MT-CDs) were successfully synthesized via hydrothermal method. The MT-CDs good biocompatibility feature excellent ROS-scavenging capacity without additional modification. vitro experiments proved that efficiently regulated intracellular ROS, which maintained mitochondrial homeostasis suppressed production mediators. Furthermore, findings from mouse model periodontitis indicated significantly inhibited deterioration alveolar bone reduced osteoclast activation inflammation, thereby contributing regeneration damaged tissue. terms mechanism, may scavenge preventing cellular damage factors by regulating nuclear factor erythroid 2-related 2 (Nrf2)/heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) pathway. will offer vital understanding advancement secure effective platforms more biomedical applications.

Microplastics (MPs) seriously pollute and potentially threaten human health. Birds are sentinels of environmental pollutants, which respond quickly to contamination events reveal current exposure. Therefore, birds good bioindicators for monitoring pollutants. However, the mechanism lung injury in role PTEN/PI3K/AKT axis unknown. In this study, broilers treated with different polystyrene microplastics (PS-MPs) (0, 1, 10, 100 mg/L) were exposed drinking water 6 weeks analyze effect PS-MPs on broilers. The results showed that increase concentration, malonaldehyde (MDA) content increased, catalase (CAT) glutathione (GSH) activity decreased, further leading oxidative stress. caused PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway be inhibited by phosphorylation, autophagy accelerated formation (LC3) degradation (p62), causing autophagy. tissues, expression Bax/Bcl-2 Caspase family MAPK signaling pathways (p38, ERK, JNK) an phosphorylation level, thus cell apoptosis. Our research could activate antioxidant system. system unbalance-regulated family, initiated apoptosis autophagy, turn led tissue damage chickens. These great significance toxicological study protection ecosystem.
