Purpose Open innovation (OI), by now one of the major concepts for analysis innovation, is seen as a methodology collaboratively designing and implementing solutions engaging stakeholders in an iterative inclusive service design process. This paper aims to empirically investigate OI capacities, defined cooperative, knowledge-sharing ecosystem, explore how it can lead improved performance firms Central Eastern European (CEE) Southeastern (SEE) countries. Design/methodology/approach The study builds on World Bank/European Bank Reconstruction Development (EBRD’s) Business Environment Enterprise Performance Survey (BEEPS) dataset 2009, 2013 2019. Primarily, research model was estimated using log-transformed ordinary least squares (OLS). Taking into consideration that this method might produce substantial bias, yielding misleading inferences, fitting Poisson pseudo maximum likelihood estimators with robust standard errors instrumental variable/generalized moments estimation (IV/GMM) approach comparative results. Secondarily, tested structural equation modelling (SEM) relationship between five capacities firm performance. Findings findings indicate there significant positive most performance, except which did not show statistically Specifically, development (R&D), knowledge coopetition are positively associated whereas transformation but negatively IV/GMM estimations’ support view significantly affected together some control variables such size, age, foreign ownership year dummy have impact Originality/value fills identified gap literature investigating executed specific CEE SEE country context.

Abstract In the digital era, organizations strategically adopt transformation to thrive and prosper. particular, they allocate substantial resources cultivate orientation. However, limited research has explored how orientation impacts performance of small medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Our study sheds light on this relationship, examining it through lens a resource-based view (RBV) dynamic capability (DC) perspective. We empirically quantify its subdimensions using textual data extracted from SME websites. findings unveil U-shaped relationship: while high is observable at both extremes spectrum, an initial increase in associated with setbacks until specific threshold reached, after which once again begins improve. As result, SMEs should consider strategic allocation pursuing build capabilities during their journey.
