Abstract Recent studies have increasingly focused on the cognitive benefits of acute physical activity, particularly in enhancing creative thinking. Despite extensive research linking activity and cognition, significant gaps remain understanding how specific types intensities activities influence this relationship. This review aims to synthesize current findings, highlighting notable impact various One key finding is enhancement divergent thinking, a critical component creativity, through like walking at natural pace. Moderate intensity aerobic exercise dance, though based limited studies, also appear facilitate Additionally, vigorous may enhance secondary aspects including quantity flexibility idea generation. However, identifies multiple gaps, especially effects resistance structured moderate pointing an area ripe for future exploration. Recognizing importance it becomes essential understand different activities, their levels, affect cognition. knowledge can guide both academic practical applications, offering valuable insights targeted strategies aimed function creativity real-world settings such as classrooms workplaces. The underscores need more comprehensive exploration topic, which could implications fields psychology.

During the aging process, physical capabilities (e.g., muscular strength) and cognitive functions memory) gradually decrease. Regarding functions, substantial functional compensatory brain activity) structural changes shrinking of hippocampus) in cause this decline. Notably, growing evidence points towards a relationship between cognition measures strength muscle mass. Based on emerging evidence, resistance exercises and/or training, which contributes to preservation augmentation mass, may trigger beneficial neurobiological processes could be crucial for healthy that includes cognition. Compared with multitude studies have investigated influence endurance training performance structure, considerably less work has focused effects training. While available regarding exercise-induced is pooled, underlying processes, such as changes, yet summarized. Hence, purpose systematic review provide an overview are related functions.

The rodent hippocampus generates new neurons throughout life. This process, named adult hippocampal neurogenesis (AHN), is a striking form of neural plasticity that occurs in the brains numerous mammalian species. Direct evidence humans has remained elusive, although occurrence this phenomenon human dentate gyrus been demonstrated seminal studies and recent research have applied distinct approaches to birthdate newly generated validate markers adult-born neurons. Our data point persistence AHN until 10th decade life, as well marked impairments process patients with Alzheimer's disease. Moreover, our work demonstrates methods used analyze postmortem brain samples can limit detection various making them undetectable. In Dual Perspectives article, we highlight critical methodological aspects should be strictly controlled robust supports humans. We also put forward reasons may account for current discrepancies on topic. Finally, unresolved questions future challenges awaiting field are highlighted.

ABSTRACT Purpose Previous studies report memory and functional connectivity of systems improve acutely after a single aerobic exercise session or with training, suggesting that the acute effects may reflect initial changes adapt over time. In this trial, for first time, we test proof-of-concept whether training on working brain network are related in same participants. Methods Cognitively normal older participants ( N = 34) were enrolled randomized clinical trial (NCT02453178). Participants completed fMRI resting state face N-back task light- moderate-intensity exercises 12-wk intervention. Results Functional did not change more compared light-intensity training. However, both groups showed similar cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) (maximal oxygen uptake, V˙O 2peak ), limiting group-level comparisons. Acute connections primarily default predicted enhancements connections. Working also improved acutely, especially moderate-intensity, greater improvements improvement Exercise right lateralized frontoparietal to gains memory. Conclusions Our data support concept performance as an activity-evoked biomarker benefits outcomes. These findings lead new insights methods improving outcomes
