Abstract
Dry
eye
disease
(DED)
affects
up
to
half
of
the
world’s
population
and
causes
blur,
pain,
decreased
quality
life.
Unfortunately,
many
people
do
not
receive
proper
treatment
due
current
challenges
associated
with
DED
diagnoses.
To
address
this
issue,
point-of-care
(PoC)
clinical
tear
film
diagnostics
are
beginning
be
used
for
rapid
in-office
testing.
However,
these
also
have
significant
obstacles,
including
sampling.
We
previously
demonstrated
how
soft
contact
lenses
(SCLs)
can
capture
concentrate
proteins
on
eye.
Given
low
volume
subjects,
SCL
sampling
holds
great
potential
improve
PoC
facilitate
prompt
patients.
Here
we
show
detection
new
established
protein
biomarkers
using
our
method.
Our
analysis
revealed
associations
between
immune
system,
ferroptosis,
salivary
secretion,
calcium
binding
proteins.
identified
correlations
testing
proteomics,
emphasizing
power
importance
translational
medicine
research.
These
experiments
lay
foundation
both
sampled
biomarker
discovery
as
well
improved
diagnostic
patient
care.
