Oxidative stress reflects an imbalance between the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and antioxidant defense systems, it can be associated with pathogenesis progression neurodegenerative diseases such as multiple sclerosis, stroke, Parkinson's disease (PD). The application antioxidants, which defend against oxidative stress, is able to detoxify intermediates prevent neurodegeneration resulting from excessive ROS production. There are many reports showing that numerous flavonoids, a large group natural phenolic compounds, act antioxidants flavonoids has beneficial effects in adult brain. Baicalein, a major bioactive flavone constituent isolated from Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, has neuroprotective properties in several neurological disorders. Many studies suggest that oxidative stress plays central role the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease (PD). Baicalein also been shown to have antioxidant effects. Therefore, current study was designed investigate whether baicalein could protect against MPP+/MPTP-induced neurotoxicity via suppressing vitro and vivo. In vitro, our results showed increased cell viability MPP+-treated SH-SY5Y cells. Treatment with reversed MDA ROS levels, decreased GSH levels MPTP-treated mice, ameliorated MPTP-induced motor impairment suppressed accumulation iron lipid peroxides. Besides, improved induced by MPTP as seen significant raise tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) simultaneous decrease monoamine-oxidase-B (MAO-B).
