The COVID-19 pandemic has led to unprecedented levels of uncertainty for people around the world. Research suggests that internet searching resulting in contradictory information can lead increased distress, particularly who have a high intolerance (IU). In present correlational study, U.S. undergraduate students (N = 317) indicated their IU, frequency with which they search related online, overall health anxiety, fear (FCV-19), and engagement prevention behaviors. Consistent previous research, individual differences IU moderated relationship between searches FCV-19 such more was associated greater fear. turn, we also found predicted social-distancing These findings are important both future mental public initiatives.

Fear of childbirth (FOC) is one the most common psychological symptoms among pregnant women and significantly relates to cesarean section, anxiety, depression. However, it not clear prevalence risk factors FOC Chinese since outbreak COVID-19 pandemic. The objective this study was examine associations between coping styles, intolerance uncertainty, FOC.From December 2021 April 2022, a cross-sectional survey conducted in two hospitals China through convenient sampling. The 969 women, which included Childbirth Attitude Questionnaire (CAQ), Intolerance Uncertainty Scale-12 (IUS-12), Simplified Coping Style (SCSQ).The total 67.8%. percentages with mild (a score 28-39), moderate (40-51), severe (52-64) were 43.6, 20.2, 4.0%, respectively. regression results indicated that primiparas, unplanned pregnancy, few spousal support, negative styles significant FOC. Women who adopt positive strategies experienced lower level fear. These findings suggest cultivating obtaining sufficient information may be helpful for mothers' mental health. Regular screening assessment perinatal symptoms, such as high uncertainty should adopted reduce fear childbirth.

Intolerance of uncertainty plays a central role in anxiety and research suggests that it's an important treatment target. Investigating response to using other dimensions than self-report, such as physiological responses, can further the effort understand more fully. Mindfulness interventions have become increasingly interesting their application anxiety, they foster acceptance unpleasant aspects experience. The aims study were examine whether mindfulness intervention reduced symptoms, associations between intolerance uncertainty, anxiety.Participants 117 students who completed two-week or audiobook control intervention. At pre- post-intervention assessments, measures mindfulness, threat-of-shock task assessing startle responding unpredictable shock was administered.Findings showed significant effect for social symptoms. Furthermore, mediated on symptoms worry. No effects found uncertainty. The adds understanding well its mechanistic context practice. Implications possible explanations non-significant main are discussed.

Individuals high in self-reported Intolerance of Uncertainty (IU) tend to view uncertainty as unbearable and stressful. Notably, IU is transdiagnostic, levels are observed across many different emotional disorders (e.g., anxiety, depression). Research has primarily focused on how evokes modulates states such fear anxiety. However, recent research suggests that may have relevance for a broader range states. Here, an online survey was conducted examine whether negative fear/anxiety, sadness/upset, anger/frustration, disgust) positive happiness/joy, excitement/enthusiasm, surprise/interest) Findings within community sample (n = 231) revealed individuals with higher report: (1) general under ambiguity more likely evoke less states, (2) risk (3) heightens existing dampens Importantly, these IU-related findings remained when controlling current experiences distress, anxious arousal, anhedonic depression. Taken together, suggest involved evoking modulating wide array phenomena, which transdiagnostic models treatment plans disorders.

A popular focus in affective neuroscience research has been to map the relationships between individual differences (e.g.personality and environmental experiences) psychophysiological responses, order further understand effect of upon neurobehavioral systems that support affect arousal.Despite this trend, there have a lack practical examples demonstrating how quantification (e.g.categorical or continuous) impacts observed different units analysis (e.g.self-report > responses). To address gap, we conducted two-stage aggregated meta-analysis self-reported intolerance uncertainty (IU) skin conductance responses during threat extinction (k = 18, n 1006) using choices for selfreported (continuous, categorical via median split, extremesone standard deviation above/below).Results from meta-analyses revealed techniques produced some consistent (e.g. higher IU was significantly associated with responding late training) inconsistent IU-related effects.Furthermore, number statistically significant effects sizes varied based on (e.g.categorical, compared continuous more effects, larger sizes). The current study highlights conducting methods may help researchers difference construct interest (e.g.characterisation, measurement), as well examine stability reliability difference-based correspondence various analysis.

Intolerance of uncertainty (IU), the tendency to find negative, is a fundamental transdiagnostic dimension across anxiety-related disorders. Over past two decades, there has been an increase in both clinical and experimental research on role IU maintenance treatment However, lack integration findings from mechanistic perspective, which slowed progress translational research. This review seeks fill this gap by synthesising (e.g. randomised controlled trials) lab-based) literature psychological mechanisms that drive change The highlighted that: (1) cognitive restructuring, supported such as appraisal, modify IU-related cognitions, (2) behavioural exposures, inhibitory learning, alter cognitions physiological arousal, (3) mindfulness techniques underpinned attentional monitoring, decentering, acceptance, cognitions. Across different therapeutic reviewed, was evidence for how emotions behaviours. Directions further include directly comparing effectiveness produce anxiety disorders other mental health disorders, examining specificity over anxious traits. Overall, provide foundation future efforts build upon maximising existing interventions and/or develop novel target dispositional situational uncertainty-related distress beyond.
