Propolis (bee glue) has been known for centuries. The ancient Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians were aware of the healing properties propolis made extensive use it as a medicine. In middle ages was not very popular topic its in mainstream medicine disappeared. However, knowledge medicinal survived traditional folk interest returned Europe together with renaissance theory ad fontes. It only last century that scientists have able to prove is active important our forefathers thought. Research on chemical composition started at beginning twentieth continued after WW II. Advances chromatographic analytical methods enabled separation extraction several components from propolis. At least 180 different compounds identified so far. Its antibacterial, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, anesthetic, confirmed. effectively used treatment dermatological, laryngological, gynecological problems, neurodegenerative diseases, wound healing, burns ulcers. requires further research may lead new discoveries possible applications.

Propolis, a resinous material produced by honey bees from plant exudates, has long been used in traditional herbal medicine and is widely consumed as health aid immune system booster. The COVID-19 pandemic renewed interest propolis products worldwide; fortunately, various aspects of the SARS-CoV-2 infection mechanism are potential targets for compounds. entry into host cells characterized viral spike protein interaction with cellular angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) serine protease TMPRSS2. This involves PAK1 overexpression, which kinase that mediates coronavirus-induced lung inflammation, fibrosis, suppression. Propolis components have inhibitory effects on ACE2, TMPRSS2 signaling pathways; addition, antiviral activity proven vitro vivo. In pre-clinical studies, promoted immunoregulation pro-inflammatory cytokines, including reduction IL-6, IL-1 beta TNF-α. monocytes macrophages, well Jak2/STAT3, NF-kB, inflammasome pathways, reducing risk cytokine storm syndrome, major mortality factor advanced disease. also shown promise an treatment comorbidities particularly dangerous patients, respiratory diseases, hypertension, diabetes, cancer. Developing biodegradable active films has been a promising green approach to overcoming global concerns over the environmental pollution and human health caused by plastic utilization. This study aimed develop based on chitosan (CS), produced from waste crayfish (Procambarus clarkii) shells enriched with bioactive extract (5-20%) of propolis (PS) characterize its properties, envisaging food packaging applications. The chromatographic profile PS confirmed richness, 41 phenolic compounds. With increasing addition chitosan, thickness increased 61.7 71.7 μm, causing reduction in light transmission rate, along greenish colour shift. interactions between CS was infrared spectroscopy, at same time that microstructural integrity checked scanning electron microscopy micrographs. findings also showed enhanced thermal stability mechanical properties e.g., tensile modulus, yield strength, stress break. Besides, it improved antioxidant antimicrobial activities. Overall, CS-based composite seem alternative petroleum-based synthetic plastics allowing extend shelf life products due their eco-friendly nature.

All showed quite similar polyphenol comparable percentage even if ESIT12 found to be richer phenolic acids (caffeic, coumaric, ferulic, isoferulic). Overall, flavones flavonols ranged ~20% up ~36% extract, while flavanones diidroflavonols between ~28% ~41%. Besides composition, hydroalcoholic extracts total polyphenols content.
